Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering at the University of Genoa, Italy, in 1977 (110/110 cum laude). Member of IEEE since 1975. Visiting Scientist (Faculty status) at Temple University, Philadelphia, USA, from 1977 to 1979. Italian delegate of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) in the IIIrd, IVth and VIth Framework Programmes of the European Union (UE) for the ICT area. Since 1996, evaluator of industrial research proposals for MIUR and the Ministry for Economic Development (MISE) of Italy. Since 1996 until 2002, delegate of MIUR at the OECD. Since 2004 until 2006 member of the FIRB (Strategic mission-oriented Basic Research Funding) Committee of MIUR. Since 2005 until 2009 President of the Technical and Scientific Committee of MIUR for Industrial Research. Since 2006 til 2010 Head and Director of the ICT Department of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR). Since 2010 til 2013 President of DigitPA, the Italian National Institution for the Digitalization of the Public Administration. Since 2013, President of ENR, the National Italian Institution for standardization research and promotion. Author of more than 200 scientific publications on scientific journals, books and proceedings of international and national meetings and of one industrial patent. Since 2013, “Grande Ufficiale dell’Ordine al Merito” of the Italian Republic.
